Two in hot water for allegedly stealing property worth N250,000

Two men, Kolawole Boyede, 25, and Okikiola Temiyemi, 27, were on Friday arraigned before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing property valued at N250,000.

Boyede, a barber, and Temiyemi, a tailor, whose residential addresses were not provided, are facing a three-count charge of felony, burglary, and stealing.

Prosecutor Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 16 at about 8:00 p.m. on Ogunsola Street, Okitipupa.

He alleged that the duo broke into the residence of the complainant, Omonike Ayangbade, and stole items including a Tiger generator worth N80,000, a 6kg gas cooker valued at N50,000, a rechargeable fan worth N70,000, and kitchen utensils valued at N50,000 — all totaling N250,000.

Omoyeigha said the offences contravened Sections 516, 315, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Mayowa Olanipekun granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each, with one surety each in like sum. He added that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the state government.

The case was adjourned until September 30 for further hearing.
