An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has remanded two men, Olanrewaju Adio, 43, and Ayokunle Adeoti, 42, for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
The defendants, both residents of Obantoko, Ogun State, were arraigned before Magistrate L.A. Owolabi on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, and disturbing public peace.
Prosecutor SP Josephine Ikhayere told the court that the incident occurred on July 15 at Oke Ora, Kankan Nla Agboyi Estate, Irawo, Ikorodu. She alleged that the defendants, alongside others still at large, conspired to commit a felony.
Ikhayere said the duo were caught with a locally made, cut-to-size single-barrel gun loaded with 28 live cartridges, as well as a locally made revolver pistol, for which they could not provide a satisfactory explanation.
According to the prosecution, the offences contravene Sections 168(d), 330(d), and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Following a police application, Magistrate Owolabi ordered the defendants’ remand in custody for 16 days to allow for further investigation.
However, the court granted each of them bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and proof of residence within the state.
The case was adjourned until October 2 for hearing.
