The Flying Eagles of Nigeria were held to a goalless draw by Morocco in their second Group B match at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
The tightly contested match took place on Sunday at the June 30 Air Defence Stadium in Cairo. Both teams battled hard, but clear-cut chances were few throughout the encounter.
Nigeria dominated possession in the first half but struggled to convert their possession into scoring opportunities, managing just one shot on target. Morocco, on the other hand, controlled the ball more in the second half but failed to create any serious threats on Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Ebenezer Harcourt.
With the draw, both teams are level on four points, but Morocco tops the group on goal difference. Tunisia, who earlier defeated Kenya 3-1 in the group’s other fixture, are in third place with three points.
The Flying Eagles will now face Kenya in their final Group B match on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a bid to secure a spot in the next round.
The top four teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, which is scheduled to take place from Sept. 27 to Oct. 19.
