Anambra State is ushering in a new era of security under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who has taken decisive steps to combat rising crime rates. The introduction of the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025 and the launch of the special security initiative, Udo Ga-Achị, marks a bold turning point in the state’s efforts to ensure safety and stability.

For those engaged in criminal activities, this initiative sends a strong message: Anambra is no longer a refuge for lawlessness. Governor Soludo’s administration has made it abundantly clear that crime will not be tolerated within the state.

The cornerstone of this initiative is the establishment of Agunechemba, a robust vigilante system, alongside the deployment of over 2,000 combined security personnel. These measures, paired with substantial resources such as 200 operational vehicles, are set to transform Anambra into a hostile environment for criminals.

Governor Soludo has also introduced a whistleblower incentive, offering ₦5 million to anyone who provides information leading to the capture of kidnappers. This proactive approach underscores his commitment to making Anambra the safest state in Nigeria.

However, the success of these measures hinges on the dedication of the security agencies. They must use the tools provided effectively, focusing on the protection of lives and property rather than personal interests. This is a pivotal moment, and the people of Anambra are counting on these agencies to rise to the occasion.

The citizens, too, play a crucial role in this battle against crime. In Igbo culture, silence in the face of wrongdoing is unacceptable. Families and communities are encouraged to speak out against criminal activities, rejecting ill-gotten wealth and helping to restore societal integrity. Upholding the principle of “If you see something, say something” can safeguard households from shame and contribute to lasting peace.

Governor Soludo’s vision of a secure Anambra transcends political affiliations. Security is a collective responsibility, and opposition politicians are urged to put the well-being of the state above political interests. Crime impacts everyone, and collaboration is essential to achieving lasting safety.

The people of Anambra have endured enough suffering at the hands of criminals. With Udo Ga-Achị, the state is taking a firm stand to protect its citizens, ensuring that peace and security become a reality for all.

As the Igbo adage goes, “When the rain falls, it falls on every roof.” Now is the time for all hands to be on deck in Anambra’s united fight against crime.
