Ukraine and Russia have resumed overnight drone attacks following the expiration of a brief Orthodox Easter ceasefire marked by mutual accusations of widespread violations.

Ukraine’s air force said on Monday that Russia launched 98 drones overnight, with air defence systems intercepting 87 of them.

Authorities added that an infrastructure facility in the Dnipropetrovsk region was struck, though details on casualties were still being verified.

On its part, Russia’s defence ministry reported that its forces intercepted and destroyed 33 Ukrainian drones during the same period.

Fragile ceasefire

The renewed attacks come after a 32-hour truce agreed by both sides last week to mark Orthodox Easter, which lasted from Saturday evening until the end of Sunday.

Despite the temporary ceasefire, only limited calm was observed along the roughly 1,200-kilometre front line.

Violation claims

The Ukrainian military accused Russian forces of more than 10,000 violations during the truce, largely involving ground-level clashes.

However, it noted that no missile strikes, air raids, or large-scale drone attacks were recorded during the ceasefire period.

In contrast, Russia accused Ukraine of nearly 2,000 breaches of the agreement.

The resumption of drone strikes highlights the fragile nature of ceasefire efforts in the ongoing conflict, with both sides continuing to trade blame over violations.
