Some unidentified assailants attacked a security patrol near the Nkwo Market at Umunze in Orumba South Local Government of Anambra State today.
It was gathered that the security officers were on patrol when they were attacked by gunmen.
During the attack, a yet-to-be-disclosed number of soldiers and civilians were killed.
Eyewitness disclosed to journalists that five soldiers and two civilians were killed in the incident.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.
He however assured the command had deployed security operatives to secure the area, stating that those responsible for such actions would be dealt with.
