The Governor of Enugu State was conferred with a Doctor of Laws degree (Honoris Causa) by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) during its 53rd convocation ceremony yesterday. The honorary degree was awarded in recognition of his contributions to advancing education and development in the state.



In his acceptance speech, the Governor described the honour as a shared achievement, attributing it to the collective commitment of the people of Enugu to making education a cornerstone of development. Over the past 18 months, his administration has allocated one-third of the state budget to education, with a focus on equipping children to excel in the modern, technology-driven global economy.

“This award inspires me to do even more,” the Governor said, dedicating the honour to the hardworking people of Enugu State who believe in the transformative power of education.

He expressed gratitude to the Acting Vice Chancellor of UNN, Prof. Polycarp Chigbu, the governing council, and the university’s management for bestowing the prestigious award. The Governor lauded Prof. Chigbu’s leadership, commending his efforts in enhancing the university’s infrastructure, energy innovations, and scholarly contributions, which align with the institution’s motto: To Restore the Dignity of Man.

The Governor also congratulated other awardees and graduating students celebrated at the convocation, urging them to embody the university’s spirit of excellence in their future pursuits.

“Our administration remains committed to supporting educational institutions in Enugu, ensuring they continue to be centres of excellence and innovation,” he added, reinforcing the state’s commitment to fostering a vibrant academic environment.
