Update : Zamfara Calls for Business Reforms to Spur Economic Growth

The Zamfara State government has called on business owners to embrace modern innovations to fast-track economic growth and development across the state.

Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni made the appeal during a town hall meeting with stakeholders on the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER), organised by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) on Monday in Gusau.

“We all know PEBEC was established to oversee reforms in Nigeria’s business environment,” Mummuni said. He noted that the initiative has a dual mandate: to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks and improve citizens’ perception of doing business in Nigeria.

The deputy governor affirmed that Zamfara has embraced the Federal Government’s SABER initiative and formed a State Ease of Doing Business Council to oversee the implementation of reform programmes.

Highlighting the state’s progress, Mummuni said Zamfara has amended several business laws and enacted new legislation, particularly relating to land administration. Other reforms include simplified tax regimes, infrastructure improvements, waivers, business incentives, and enhanced systems for resolving commercial disputes.

“We have established five Small Claims Courts and issued practical court directives to boost business operations in the state,” he added.

Mummuni stressed that Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration supports all initiatives aligned with citizens’ needs and aspirations, all geared towards SABER domestication.

He also urged residents to pray for peace and security across the state, region, and nation.

The State PEBEC Focal Person, Alhaji Sani Bukkuyum, also urged stakeholders to implement agreed solutions and pledged ongoing support for capacity building and inclusive economic development.

“Let us make Zamfara a forward-looking state where businesses thrive and development is visible,” Bukkuyum said.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Alhaji Aminu Guraguri, highlighted Zamfara’s wealth in human and natural resources and urged the government to adopt policies and partnerships that unlock the state’s full economic potential.

Guraguri called for more proactive measures to ease doing business, eliminate bureaucratic delays, and boost investor confidence.
