Urum community in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State has debunked rumors of a kidnappers’ den in the town, dismissing the circulating voice note as the handiwork of mischief-makers with malicious intent against the town and the state government.
Speaking on the matter, the President General of Urum, Sir Felix Oranye, clarified that there is no dense forest in the community, let alone a hideout for kidnappers as alleged in the viral voice note. He described Urum as an agrarian community where residents cultivate all lands up to the boundaries with neighboring towns.
According to Sir Felix, investigations by the town union revealed that the voice note was manipulated using AI by detractors aiming to tarnish the reputation of the community and the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. He urged the public to disregard the misleading claims, emphasizing that Urum Anike remains a safe and secure community. He also encouraged potential investors to explore opportunities in the town, touting it as the best investment destination in Anambra State.
In his remarks, the Secretary General of Urum Development Union, Comrade Matthew Ekwoanya, expressed disbelief at the intentions of the rumor mongers. He affirmed that Urum has a well-trained and equipped security team that patrols the community and its farmlands daily. He noted that no evidence of such criminal activity has ever been discovered in the town.
Comrade Ekwoanya added that the community has established a land committee to oversee all land-related matters and prevent illegal sales or activities.
