In a significant political realignment in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo, former governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Nze Afam Okpalauzuegbu, the party’s former state secretary, have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) at their ward in Amesi, Aguata Local Government Area.
The move comes just a day after Ozigbo announced his resignation from the Labour Party, citing the need to pursue a new political direction that prioritizes the development of Anambra beyond party lines. His defection, alongside Okpalauzuegbu, signals a shift in Anambra’s political landscape, as both figures were key players in LP’s emergence as a formidable force in the state during the 2023 general elections.
Ozigbo, a respected business executive and politician, was the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2021 Anambra election before aligning with LP ahead of the 2023 elections. His decision to join APC is expected to spark discussions on the future of opposition politics in the state and the broader Southeast region, where LP has enjoyed significant grassroots support.
More details on the political implications of their defection will be published shortly.
