The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has delisted 574 secondary schools across Nigeria, barring them from hosting the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The decision follows confirmed cases of widespread examination malpractice.

Dr. Amos Dangut, WAEC’s Head of National Office, announced the move during a press briefing in Lagos, stating that the affected schools have already been reported to the Federal Government for further action. According to him, these institutions “no longer exist” in WAEC’s system and will not be allowed to participate in any upcoming exams.

The ban comes just as WAEC prepares to roll out its first-ever Computer-Based WASSCE (CB-WASSCE), a major step towards digitalizing the examination process. Over 1.97 million
