“WAEC Releases 2025 WASSCE Results, Majority of Candidates Record Improved Performance”

Lagos, Nigeria – August 4, 2025

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), with millions of candidates across Nigeria and West Africa receiving their performance records.

Announcing the results at a press briefing in Lagos, WAEC’s Head of National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed that 76.3% of candidates obtained credits and above in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics—marking a notable improvement over the 2024 results.

A total of 1,617,492 candidates sat for the examination, and WAEC reported a reduction in exam malpractice cases, thanks to enhanced surveillance and digital monitoring systems across centers.

“This performance shows that our young people are capable of academic excellence when given the right learning environment and support,” Dr. Dangut said. He also highlighted the council’s ongoing efforts to make the exam more inclusive by expanding services to students with disabilities and introducing digital result verification systems.

WAEC also confirmed that candidates can now check their results online via the council’s portal and SMS platforms using their registration details.

Parents, educators, and student unions have welcomed the news, praising the improved pass rate as a reflection of students’ resilience amid ongoing challenges in the education sector, such as underfunded schools, teacher shortages, and infrastructural gaps.
