Former Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has launched a scathing attack on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), accusing the governing body of failing to pay him for 14 months during his tenure with the national women’s team.
Waldrum, who led the Super Falcons to the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, said he was still owed substantial sums by the NFF months after his contract expired. The American coach, known for his outspoken stance on player welfare and team support, claims the prolonged wage debt is both “unprofessional” and “disrespectful.”
“It’s disappointing that after everything we achieved with limited resources, I still have to beg for what I earned,” Waldrum said in an interview on Sunday. “Fourteen months without pay — that’s not just a delay, that’s neglect.”
The 67-year-old has been vocal in the past about challenges he faced managing the team, from lack of proper preparati
on to financial constraints. His public criticism of the NFF in the lead-up to the Women’s World Cup created tensions behind the scenes, although the team went on to deliver a commendable performance at the tournament.
Sources close to the NFF say internal financial constraints and administrative delays are behind the unpaid wages, but Waldrum isn’t buying the excuses.
“You can’t expect professional results with amateur management,” he said. “These players and coaches deserve respect, not excuses.”
The NFF has yet to officially respond to the latest accusations. However, calls are growing within Nigeria’s football community for greater transparency and accountability, especially in the treatment of national team staff and players.
Waldrum’s contract was not renewed after the World Cup, and the Falcons are currently under interim management as the NFF searches for a permanent replacement.
With the Paris 2024 Olympics around the corner, the controversy serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing systemic issues that plague Nigerian football, particularly in the women’s game
