What Happened to Nigeria’s Transparency Website? Barrister Darlington Sounds the Alarm – VOP Exclusive

Public affairs analyst, Barrister Darlington, has raised alarm over the disappearance of the Federal Government’s public finance tracking website, which was designed to provide transparency on government spending.

Speaking during the Inside Analysis programme on Voice of the People Television (VOP TV), Darlington revealed that the online platform — which previously allowed Nigerians to monitor every kobo of government expenditure — has reportedly been taken down.

“Are you aware that as of today, the website where all government expenses are tracked is no longer there? The record has been wiped out,” he said.
“All the expenses we discussed on this programme before — every kobo government is supposed to spend — used to go through a website where you could track them. Today, that thing is gone. You can’t capture it.”

Darlington described the situation as deeply troubling, especially at a time when the nation faces mounting economic challenges and public distrust in fiscal accountability.

He noted that even key financial figures such as the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursements and fuel subsidy spending are no longer transparently recorded or accessible to the public.

“Even the FAC and the subsidy we are talking about — the actual amount is not being recorded. It’s not captured,” he emphasized.

The analyst argued that the lack of transparency at the federal level makes it unfair for the government to continually shift blame to state governors over economic mismanagement and inflation.

“This inflation must be examined before you start blaming the governors,” Darlington said. “Because the Federal Government itself has not done well. You are not doing well as a federal government, yet you keep blaming the subnationals.”

He called for urgent restoration of the public expenditure tracking portal and demanded greater transparency in national financial management to rebuild public trust.
