An Area Court in Ilorin has dissolved the marriage between Rofiat AbdulRofiu and her husband, Anafi AbdulLateef, following her complaint of neglect and lack of affection.
AbdulRofiu told the court that her husband openly showed love only to his three other wives and their seven children, leaving her sidelined.
“I am no longer interested in the marriage,” she said.
Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, said AbdulLateef had already sent a release letter to the court, agreeing to the divorce.
The court ordered AbdulRofiu to observe a one-month Iddah (waiting period) before she can remarry.
Custody of the couple’s two-year-old child was granted to AbdulRofiu, while AbdulLateef was directed to pay ₦20,000 monthly for the child’s upkeep.
The judge also granted the father the right to have reasonable access to the child and to be kept informed of matters concerning the child’s welfare.
A copy of the judgment is to be served on AbdulLateef by the court clerk.
