Wike Hasn’t Faced Sanctions Yet-PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified why it has not taken disciplinary action against former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, despite repeated calls from some members.

Speaking to journalists, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba explained that the party is guided by its constitution and internal rules, not by arbitrary commands. According to him, the PDP is a democratic institution that must follow due process before any disciplinary measure can be considered against a member, no matter their status.

His comments follow growing criticism from party loyalists who argue that Wike’s open association with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) undermines PDP unity. However, Ologunagba stressed that the party cannot act on emotions or pressure. Instead, issues must be formally reported, investigated, and handled by the appropriate organs of the party.

Analysts say the controversy reflects the PDP’s wider struggle to manage internal divisions since the 2023 general elections. For many observers, the matter is not only about Wike but also about how Nigeria’s leading opposition party balances discipline with inclusiveness as it tries to rebuild ahead of 2027.

In simple terms, the PDP is saying: this is not a military command where orders are given and obeyed instantly — it is a political party where rules and procedures matter.
