Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has cast doubt on the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) chances in the 2027 general elections, citing a lack of unity, leadership direction, and strategic planning.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja, Wike likened the PDP’s current posture to a student pretending to study without putting in the real work. He said the party is plagued by infighting and unresolved issues that leave it unprepared to take on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next electoral cycle.
He also criticized the PDP Governors’ Forum, describing it as a toothless pressure group that has no real decision-making power. According to Wike, the forum and broader party leadership have failed to uphold the PDP’s constitution—especially on the issue of power rotation between the North and South—a misstep he believes cost the party the 2023 presidential election.
Wike further questioned the sincerity of current coalition talks within the opposition, accusing key players of putting personal ambition ahead of genuine political unity.
His remarks highlight the deep-seated challenges the PDP faces as it attempts to regroup and present itself as a credible alternative to the APC ahead of 2027.
