ABUJA—The battle for Nigeria’s 2027 presidency is already heating up as Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has taken a direct shot at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ridiculing his ambitions as doomed to fail yet again.
In a fiery Facebook post on Thursday, Olayinka dismissed Atiku’s plans to contest in 2027, predicting that it would be his seventh failed attempt at the presidency. He accused Atiku of “lying to himself” by believing he still had a political future at the highest level.
This comes after Atiku, in a recent statement, insisted he had no regrets about snubbing Wike for the vice-presidential slot in 2023 and choosing former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa instead. In response, Wike’s camp fired back, stating that not only does Atiku regret his decision, but Wike himself has no regrets about being sidelined.
With tensions escalating between the two political heavyweights, Wike’s allies have now vowed to frustrate Atiku’s 2027 presidential bid, signaling an all-out war within the opposition. As the drama unfolds, political watchers are left wondering: Is Atiku’s dream of the presidency truly over, or is Wike just another obstacle in his relentless pursuit of power?
