Xi Jinping Calls for BRICS to Be a “Stabilising Force” Amid Global Challenges at Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed BRICS leaders on Thursday, urging the group to play a pivotal role in stabilizing global peace and security as the world grapples with “serious challenges.” Speaking on the final day of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, Xi emphasized the importance of strengthening global security governance and addressing both the immediate and root causes of conflicts.

Xi highlighted the rise of the Global South, calling it a “major event in world history,” and stressed the need for BRICS to take a leading role in securing peaceful development worldwide. “We must be a stabilising force for peace,” he told the gathered leaders.

The Chinese president also urged swift action on resolving conflicts in the Middle East, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and warning against the spread of violence to Lebanon. “We need to continue to push for a ceasefire in Gaza, relaunch the two-state solution, and stop the spread of war in Lebanon,” Xi said, emphasizing that the suffering and destruction in the region must end.

Moscow, which hosted the summit, is looking to strengthen its alliances with fellow BRICS nations, hoping to forge a united front against Western influence.

Xi’s remarks come amid growing global tensions, with China positioning itself as a key player in shaping international peace and development strategies.
