Authorities have arrested seven suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of a student at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, in what police believe was a cult-related attack.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, shortly after students completed their examinations for the day. According to eyewitnesses, the victim was walking toward the institution’s back gate when he was ambushed by a group of armed men who shot him at close range.
The sound of gunfire sent shockwaves through the campus, sparking panic among students and staff. Witnesses said many fled in fear as the assailants escaped the scene.
Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrests, stating that preliminary investigations point to an ongoing rivalry between cult groups as the likely motive behind the attack. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending official notification of next of kin.
The college community remains shaken by the incident, with calls for improved campus security and stronger action against cultism within tertiary institutions.
Further details are expected as police continue their investigation into the killing.
