The US military says it has shot down a missile fired towards one of its warships from a Houthi-run area of Yemen
The anti-ship cruise missile – fired towards the USS Laboon – was downed off the coast of Hudaydah
No injuries or damage were reported in the incident, which took place on Sunday afternoon but wasn’t reported until last night
It comes after US-UK strikes in Yemen aimed at degrading the military capability of the Houthis, who have been attacking Red Sea cargo ships since November
UK PM Rishi Sunak is scheduled to address MPs about the strikes later – it’ll be the first time he’s spoken to them since the UK joined the US in hitting back
The Houthis are a political and military group in control of a large part of Yemen – they are also key allies of Hamas
They have carried out at least 27 attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea, which they’ve said is an attempt to target vessels heading to, or owned by, Israel
