Former Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law, Monday Ubani has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to release the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
In a letter dated July 10, Ubani hailed measures taken by the President to tackle challenges in the country and pleaded that similar efforts be extended to tackling insecurity in the Southeast.
The human rights lawyer said the first step towards ensuring peace in the Southeast is a political solution to the incarceration of Kanu and urged the President to release him.
He said some criminal elements in the region have latched on to the situation to keep the region under serious insecurity, loss of lives and criminality, thereby destroying the economic prospects of the region by determining days when people should come out to pursue their daily economic activities.
He urged the President to start the healing process in the Southeast by releasing Kanu from detention
