Zamfara Urges Business Reforms to Drive Economic Growth

The Zamfara State Government has called on business owners and stakeholders to embrace modern reforms and innovative practices aimed at accelerating economic growth and development across the state.

Speaking at a town hall meeting on the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER), held in Gusau on Monday, Deputy Governor Mani Mummuni stressed the urgent need for private sector players to adopt strategies that align with global business standards. The meeting was organized by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).

“We all know PEBEC was established to oversee Nigerian business environment reforms,” Mummuni said. “Its goal is to remove bureaucratic constraints and improve citizens’ experience with doing business.”

He reaffirmed Zamfara’s full commitment to the SABER initiative, revealing that a State Ease of Doing Business Council had been constituted to coordinate and implement relevant reforms.

According to the deputy governor, the state has already taken several bold steps, including the amendment of existing laws, introduction of Executive Orders, and passage of new business-friendly legislation—particularly in the area of land administration.

Other reforms cited include a simplified tax regime, infrastructure development, the creation of business incentives, waivers, and the establishment of a more efficient system for resolving commercial disputes. Mummuni highlighted the creation of five Small Claims Courts and the issuance of court directives as major milestones in improving the state’s business climate.

“These efforts reflect the commitment of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration to implement value-driven and people-focused policies that respond to the aspirations of citizens,” he added.

Mummuni called on residents to continue praying for peace and security, which he described as fundamental to any meaningful economic transformation.

Also speaking, the State PEBEC Focal Person, Alhaji Sani Bukkuyum—who also serves as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Budget and Planning—urged all stakeholders to implement agreed-upon solutions and sustain momentum in the reform process.

“Let us make Zamfara a forward-looking state where businesses thrive and development is visible,” Bukkuyum said.

Echoing this sentiment, Alhaji Aminu Guraguri, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, noted that Zamfara is rich in both human and natural resources. He emphasized the importance of adopting practical policies and reforms to unlock the state’s full economic potential.

Guraguri also called for proactive efforts to reduce bureaucratic delays and boost investor confidence, which he said are critical to creating a more vibrant and inclusive economy.
