Olujuwon Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 after joining the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement as Special Adviser on Political Affairs.
Mr Obasanjo made the declaration on Wednesday during a visit to the movement’s headquarters in Abuja, where he was received by its National Coordinator, Sunday Asuku.
He was also taken on a tour of the facility to familiarise himself with the organisation’s structure and operations.
Describing his appointment as an honour and privilege, Mr Obasanjo commended the movement for its grassroots mobilisation, community outreach and efforts to promote the activities of the Tinubu administration.
He said he had followed the organisation’s activities for some time and was impressed by its work, adding that he was prepared to contribute to its objectives and the President’s second-term ambition.
According to him, Nigerians, particularly young people, should support the administration to sustain its ongoing reforms and ensure continuity in governance.
He identified salary payments, infrastructure development and investment opportunities as areas where the country had recorded progress, arguing that the gains should be sustained.
Mr Obasanjo expressed confidence that continued support for the President would enable his administration to consolidate its achievements and deliver more dividends of democracy.
Says family allows independent political views
The younger Obasanjo also disclosed that he had been a member of the All Progressives Congress since 2014.
He explained that members of his family were free to hold different political opinions and pursue their political interests without hostility.
He said the family “allows members to hold independent political views and pursue our political interests without animosity.”
Movement welcomes Obasanjo
Welcoming him to the organisation, the National Coordinator, Sunday Asuku, described Mr Obasanjo as an experienced political figure whose leadership and governance background would strengthen the movement’s mobilisation efforts.
He expressed confidence that the new appointee would deploy his political experience and understanding of grassroots engagement to advance the organisation’s objectives across the country.
The development comes as political parties and support groups intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with supporters of President Tinubu stepping up efforts to secure his re-election.
