Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu has approved the donation of 1,000 Saudi Riyals, equivalent to about ₦450,000, to each of the 2,410 pilgrims from Sokoto State currently performing the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The announcement was made on Thursday night in Mina by the Sokoto State Amirul Hajj, Muhammad Mai Gari Dingyadi, who said the gesture was aimed at supporting the pilgrims as they conclude the spiritual exercise.
According to Mr Dingyadi, the financial assistance is intended to ease the expenses of the pilgrims as they prepare for their return journey to Nigeria.
“Governor Ahmed Aliyu has approved the donation of 1,000 Saudi Riyals to each pilgrim from Sokoto State as a Sallah package to support them during their stay and return journey,” he said.
Amirul Hajj commends Pilgrims’ conduct
Mr Dingyadi praised the pilgrims for what he described as exemplary behaviour throughout the Hajj exercise, noting that none of the pilgrims from Sokoto State violated Saudi Arabian laws during the pilgrimage.
“We are proud of the exemplary behaviour displayed by Sokoto pilgrims. None of them was involved in any violation of Saudi laws, and they have conducted themselves as worthy ambassadors of our state,” Mr Dingyadi stated.
He urged the pilgrims to sustain the discipline and continue representing Sokoto State positively until the completion of the Hajj rites.
Call for prayers for peace, security
The Amirul Hajj also reiterated the commitment of the Sokoto State government to the welfare of its citizens, including pilgrims participating in the annual Islamic pilgrimage.
“The present administration remains dedicated to improving the wellbeing of Sokoto citizens and ensuring continuous support for pilgrims and other residents of the state,” he added.
He further encouraged the pilgrims to pray for peace, unity, and progress in Sokoto State and Nigeria.
“I encourage all pilgrims to pray for the success of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration and for Allah to restore lasting peace and security in Sokoto State and across the country,” he said.
The annual Hajj pilgrimage attracts thousands of Nigerian Muslims to Saudi Arabia each year, with state governments often providing logistical and welfare support for pilgrims from their respective states.
Sokoto State remains one of the northern states with significant participation in the pilgrimage, with authorities emphasizing welfare, discipline, and compliance with Saudi regulations during the exercise.
