Speaker Aminu Abbas has lost his Adamawa central senatorial ticket.

The Federal High Court in Yola nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary conducted in May and won by Abbas, on the ground that the primary was not conducted with due regard to the Electoral Act.

The Court presided by Justice Abdulaziz Anka ruled the participation of Awwal Tukur as a political appointee in the primary invalidated the whole process.

Justice Abdulaaziz Anka, in his ruling on the suit filed by one of those who contested in the primary with Abbas, Mohammed Modibbo, held the participation of Awwal Turkur who is Chairman of the Governing Council of Adamawa State University, contradicted a provision of the Electoral Act because he is a political appointee.

He said further that such is the consequential judgment of the court against the entire political party and its members.

At the PDP Adamawa Central Senatorial primary in May, Abbas defeated Awwal Tukur, who is a son of former chairman of the PDP, Babanga Tukur and five other aspirants that include Barrister D. D. Azura, Mohammed Modibbo, Ibrahim Mustapha, Ibrahim Abubakar and Hon. Abdullahi Prambe.
