Barcelona forward Raphinha has said that his commitment to the club comes before individual awards, insisting that team success remains his priority despite growing speculation about his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or.
The Brazilian made the statement while discussing his future at Barcelona following the signing of a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2030.
“I will do my best for the club, not for individual awards. I have always put the interests of the club I play for first,” he said in comments shared by football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano on X on Friday.
Raphinha targets long-term Barcelona stay
The 29-year-old expressed pride in extending his contract with the Spanish champions, adding that he hoped to end his professional career at the club, provided his fitness allowed him to continue playing.
Raphinha has enjoyed an impressive start to the season, scoring 15 goals in his first 10 La Liga appearances.
Despite his individual achievements and increasing discussions about his Ballon d’Or prospects, the forward maintained that winning trophies with Barcelona was more important to him.
Backs Yamal for Ballon d’Or success
The Barcelona captain also dismissed suggestions of rivalry with teenage teammate Lamine Yamal, saying he would be happy to see the youngster win football’s biggest individual honour.
“I want him to have the best statistics and achieve everything with the club. I’d be happy if he won 10 Ballon d’Ors,” Raphinha said.
He added that his ambition was to win every available trophy with Barcelona, identifying the UEFA Champions League as one of his major targets.
