The Federal Ministry of Works has ordered Julius Berger to vacate the site of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road project following the issuance of a 14-day termination notice. This directive comes after months of failed negotiations over cost, scope, and terms, as well as the company’s refusal to resume work as instructed.
Julius Berger had been handling Section One of the rehabilitation project, which began in 2018. Despite completing the Kaduna-Zaria section and nearing completion on the Zaria-Kano stretch, only 27 per cent progress has been recorded on the Abuja-Kaduna section in six years.
The Ministry’s decision, announced after a management meeting in Abuja, puts an end to further discussions, as Julius Berger did not comply with directives or attend a scheduled meeting on Monday.
This termination follows an earlier warning from the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who criticized the company for delays and accused it of trying to undermine the current administration.
