The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari, has sought the blessings and prayers of traditional rulers for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, expressing confidence that the APC will secure victory in the 2027 general elections.

Mr Yari made the remarks during consultative visits to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as the campaign council intensifies its nationwide engagement with traditional institutions ahead of the polls.

According to a statement issued by Mr Yari’s media office, the visits were aimed at strengthening ties with traditional rulers and seeking their prayers, guidance and royal blessings for the upcoming elections.

Campaign council seeks prayers, not endorsements

The statement said the delegation made it clear that it was not seeking political endorsement or mobilisation support from the traditional rulers, but rather their prayers and guidance.

The latest visits form part of the campaign council’s broader consultations with traditional institutions across the country as the APC prepares to defend Tinubu’s presidency in 2027.

Mr Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State and serving senator, was appointed Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council to coordinate the party’s presidential campaign ahead of the election.

Yari confident of APC victory

Mr Yari has repeatedly expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term, while urging APC members and supporters to work towards retaining power beyond 2027.

In August, he assured Nigerians that the APC would fulfil its campaign promises and said the party remained committed to supporting Tinubu’s re-election.

The campaign council has also been engaging traditional rulers in different parts of the country as it seeks to build support for the President ahead of the polls.

Royal Blessings and the 2027 Contest

The outreach to traditional rulers comes as political parties increasingly position themselves for the 2027 elections.

While traditional rulers do not formally participate in Nigeria’s electoral process, their influence within communities makes engagement with royal institutions an important part of political outreach.

Mr Yari’s consultations therefore form part of the APC’s broader strategy to strengthen its grassroots structures and regional relationships ahead of what is expected to be a closely contested presidential election.
