Real Madrid manager, José Mourinho, has urged 19-year-old winger Yan Diomande to improve his finishing and decision-making in the final third despite praising the youngster’s overall contribution.
Mourinho made the comments after Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Sevilla on Sunday, where Diomande continued to show his attacking potential.
The Portuguese coach said he was pleased with the Ivorian’s performance but identified finishing as a key area requiring improvement.
“I am very happy with Diomande. He has a lot to work on, and he has many things he needs to improve. He needs to work on his finishing,” Mourinho said.
He added that Diomande’s ability to consistently get into dangerous positions was encouraging but called for greater composure when making his final move.
“He gets to a lot of dangerous positions, but he needs to learn to relax more and make a better decision in last touch.”
Diomande, a Côte d’Ivoire international, joined Real Madrid from RB Leipzig during the summer and has impressed with his movement and ability to create dangerous situations.
Mourinho, however, believes the teenager must become more composed and clinical in front of goal if he is to fulfil his potential at the Spanish giants.
