Former Inspector-General of Police and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Jigawa South-West, Suleiman Abba, has promised to tackle the region’s development challenges if elected in the 2027 general elections.
His pledge comes as political activities gather momentum across Jigawa State, with candidates and aspirants intensifying consultations and grassroots campaigns ahead of the polls.
Abba made the commitment on Monday during the commencement of his campaign and consultation tour in Gwaram and Birnin Kudu Local Government Areas.
Addressing party members and supporters at the PDP secretariat in Gwaram, the former police chief expressed gratitude for the opportunity to begin his campaign, promising to pursue sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the senatorial district.
He identified infrastructure deficits, youth empowerment and insecurity as major concerns requiring urgent attention, describing the area as underserved in these critical sectors.
Abba said his experience in public service, particularly his role in managing national security and protecting Nigeria’s democracy, would position him to attract development and improve the welfare of residents.
He also pledged to visit all 11 wards in Gwaram Local Government Area to seek support, calling on both indigenes and non-indigenes to support his senatorial ambition.
The PDP candidate further described himself as the most experienced among the 10 contenders seeking to represent Jigawa South-West in the Senate.
“I have served this country at the highest level of security management. I understand the problems of our people, and I will use my experience to bring development that has eluded us,” he said.
Following the meeting at the party secretariat, Abba and his supporters embarked on a road walk through Gwaram to mobilise voters and promote his candidacy.
In a separate address, the PDP candidate for the Gwaram Federal Constituency, Isah Idris Gwaram, appealed to voters to support the party, expressing confidence in its ability to deliver on its campaign promises.
He maintained that the PDP had a clear plan to address underdevelopment in the constituency.
A former party chairman, Isah Duniya Bahutu, also called on residents to support Abba, describing him as an experienced and dependable leader.
Bahutu said the party remained united and prepared to regain its political standing in Jigawa South-West.
As part of his grassroots engagement, Abba also held discussions with non-indigenes living in the area, assuring them that his proposed representation would be inclusive.
The campaign team subsequently visited communities across Gwaram and Birnin Kudu, where the PDP also welcomed individuals who defected from other political parties.
