Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising major infrastructure projects aimed at improving transportation, trade and economic development across Northern Nigeria.

Mr Yusuf gave the commendation on Wednesday while representing the President at the commissioning of Section III of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway.

The governor said the Federal Government’s investment in road infrastructure would improve connectivity between communities, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and strengthen the business environment across the region.

“At this juncture, I have to commend President Bola Tinubu for prioritising major infrastructure projects to strengthen transportation, trade and other economic activities for the development of the North,” Mr Yusuf said.

Kano–Zaria corridor key to regional trade

The governor described the Kano–Zaria corridor as particularly important because of Kano’s position as a major commercial and industrial centre serving several states in Northern Nigeria.

He said improved road networks would support agricultural production, expand market access and create better opportunities for traders, transport operators and businesses.

According to Mr Yusuf, efficient transportation infrastructure is essential to economic growth because it enables people and goods to move more easily between communities and commercial centres.

He added that sustained investment in critical infrastructure would help strengthen economic activities and improve connectivity across the country.

Governor calls for federal-state collaboration

Mr Yusuf also called for continued cooperation between the Federal Government and state governments to address infrastructure needs and accelerate development.

He said collaboration between the two levels of government would be important in ensuring that strategic projects deliver lasting benefits to residents and businesses.

The Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano highway is a major transportation corridor linking the Federal Capital Territory with Kaduna and Kano states. Its development is expected to improve road connectivity and support commercial activities across Northern Nigeria.

The governor’s remarks came amid ongoing Federal Government infrastructure projects in Kano, including road construction and other strategic investments intended to strengthen the state’s economic position.
