In a recent court proceeding, a man identified only as Moses stands accused of assaulting a woman on her farm in Sagamu, Ogun State. The victim’s husband, Japhet Akawe, testified that on March 18, 2023, while he was away, his wife, along with his brother and sister-in-law, went to their farm to harvest cassava. During this time, Moses allegedly appeared, seized his wife’s mobile phone, dragged her into the bush, and assaulted her. Akawe further stated that Moses threatened the family, warning him not to contact his wife’s phone or risk further harm.
This incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Ogun State, where cases of armed robbery and assault remain prevalent. Recent studies have shown that such violent crimes are widespread across southwestern Nigeria, with armed robbery being particularly predominant in states like Lagos and Ogun.
The trial is set to continue on May 20, 2025, as the court seeks to address these serious allegations and the broader issue of violent crimes in the region.
