The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Chidubem Anyigo, over the alleged burglary of a Catholic parish house and theft of valuables belonging to a Reverend Father in the state.
The suspect was apprehended on October 30 at Relief Market by operatives of the Okpoko Police Division working alongside members of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), following intelligence gathering.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, adding that the operation led to the recovery of a mobile phone and cash allegedly stolen from the cleric.
According to the police, the recovered items include an iPhone 16 Pro Max and ₦150,070 in cash. However, the command’s initial account also identified the recovered phone as an iPhone 16 Plus.
The police said preliminary investigations linked the suspect to the burglary of St. Hilary Parish House, Owelle-Aja, Awada, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Ikenga stated that the suspect had made statements during interrogation that could assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He added that the victim had been contacted and had identified the recovered property as belonging to him.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, commended the officers and vigilante operatives involved in the operation, praising their prompt response to intelligence and cooperation.
Ama reaffirmed the command’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with community-based security organisations and other stakeholders to tackle criminal activities, protect residents and safeguard property across the state.
The police said the operation reflects its continued reliance on intelligence-led policing and partnerships with local security groups to combat burglary, theft and other criminal activities in Anambra.
