The Independent National Electoral Commission says nine registered political parties have collected access codes required to upload candidates’ particulars for the Presidential and National Assembly elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The disclosure was made on Tuesday in Abuja by INEC National Commissioner in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, Mohammed Haruna.

According to Mr Haruna, the parties that have collected the access credentials include the Accord, Action Alliance, African Democratic Congress, All Progressives Congress, Labour Party, National Democratic Congress, National Democratic Party, Peoples Redemption Party and Social Democratic Party.

“As of close of work on Monday, nine political parties have collected the access code for the national elections,” he said.

Nomination process

Mr Haruna explained that it remains the responsibility of political parties seeking to participate in elections to approach the commission and obtain the access codes rather than expecting INEC to distribute them directly.

He added that individuals collecting the credentials on behalf of parties must present an authorisation letter from the party leadership.

The commissioner also reminded parties that INEC had already issued guidelines for candidate nominations and conducted training sessions for party officials.

Deadline warning

Mr Haruna cautioned political parties against delaying submission until the closing hours of the nomination window.

“INEC has been generous by extending the deadline from the close of work to midnight of the deadline date. If any political party decides to wait until the deadline, INEC cannot be blamed for that,” he said.

Election timetable

According to the commission’s timetable for the 2027 general elections, submission of nomination forms for Presidential and National Assembly candidates runs from June 27 to July 11 through INEC’s designated candidate nomination portal.

Submission for governorship and State House of Assembly elections is scheduled to hold between July 18 and August 8.

The nomination process marks another key stage in preparations for the 2027 elections as political parties intensify internal processes and candidate selection across the country.
