Troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade operating under Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, have exhumed the remains of a local community leader, Chief Ibe Anyadu, from a shallow grave located within the Umudike Forest in Imo State.
The breakthrough followed intelligence-driven operations that led to the arrest of a violent criminal gang responsible for the recent murder of a Nigerian Army soldier and the theft of service rifles. During interrogations, one of the detained suspects confessed to participating in the abduction and murder of Chief Anyadu, an influential leader in Aggah Community, and offered to lead security operatives to the burial site.
On August 2, 2026, guided by the suspect, military forces infiltrated the Umudike Forest in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area—a known hideout for armed syndicates in the region—where the body was recovered. The exhumation was conducted in the presence of the victim’s family, local vigilante personnel, and community representatives from both Aggah and Umudike. Following the recovery, the family provided an ambulance and coffin to facilitate a dignified burial according to local traditions.
Confirming the operation, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, reaffirmed that security forces remain resolute in dismantling criminal networks across the South-East. Major General Oluremi Fadairo, Commander of Operation UDO KA, extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured residents that all suspects involved will face prosecution under Nigerian law.
