
The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has dismissed Dr. Usman Aliyu, a senior lecturer at the university, for sexually harassing a married postgraduate student, Mrs. Kamila Aliyu.
The dismissal was made public in the university’s official newsletter, ATBU Herald (Vol. 39 No. 5), released on April 22, 2025. The decision followed the outcome of the 96th regular meeting of the university’s Governing Council, held on April 11.
According to the newsletter, the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee investigated the case and found Dr. Aliyu guilty of sexual harassment. Based on the committee’s findings, the Governing Council approved his dismissal from the university.
ATBU management stated that the university does not tolerate any form of sexual misconduct and will continue to take firm action against staff who abuse their positions.
The dismissal letter reads, “Following the report of the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee that found you guilty of an indecent relationship involving a student of the university, Mrs Kamila Rufai Aliyu of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology, the council has subsequently approved your dismissal from the services of the university with immediate effect.”
