Barr. Darlington Questions Why Terrorism Is Tolerated in Some Regions

Abuja, Nigeria — Legal practitioner and political analyst Barrister Darlington has decried what he described as the sectional handling of terrorism in Nigeria, questioning why citizens are not protesting the worsening insecurity across the country.

Speaking during a live political discussion on VOP TV, Darlington expressed frustration over the government’s inconsistent response to terrorism, noting that certain regions appear to receive more lenient treatment despite similar or even worse security challenges.

“Is this terrorism not enough reason for a protest? It has been sectionalized,” Darlington said.

He argued that terrorism and violent crimes have been politicized, with the government and security agencies applying double standards depending on the region or those involved.

“When terrorism happens in one part of the country, it’s treated differently than in another. That’s why the problem persists — because justice is not being applied equally,” he added.[irp]

Darlington lamented that Nigerians have become numb to insecurity, warning that continued silence could embolden perpetrators and deepen national division.

“If we truly care about peace, Nigerians must rise above ethnicity and politics to demand action. Terrorism anywhere is a threat everywhere,” he warned.

Analysts have echoed similar sentiments, urging the Federal Government to adopt a uniform and transparent approachin addressing terrorism and to ensure that no group or region is perceived as being above the law.
