Rapper OdumoduBlvck emerged as the standout winner of the coveted ‘Next Rated’ category at the 17th edition of the prestigious Headies Awards.
Voice Of The People (VOP) reports that the award ceremony, themed “Back to Base,” was held on Sunday at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.
The ‘Next Rated’ category is often regarded as the most prestigious, spotlighting the industry’s brightest and most promising new talents — and OdumoduBlvck’s victory was one of the evening’s most memorable moments.
In an emotional scene, he invited his mother and his entire crew on stage to celebrate the milestone. He shared a touching story about his mother’s journey, noting that she gave birth to him in her late thirties and had always believed he was destined for greatness. Dedicating the award to her, OdumoduBlvck expressed profound gratitude, emphasizing their unique mother-son bond. The crowd erupted in cheers as his proud mother stood beaming among friends, crew members, and well-wishers.
This year’s ceremony marked a significant homecoming for the Headies after being hosted in the United States for two consecutive years. The “Back to Base” theme emphasized the importance of cultural roots while celebrating creativity and innovation.
The event was graced by a host of celebrities, dignitaries, and notable personalities, including the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who attended the celebration.
One of the night’s standout moments was the appearance of Tanzanian singer Juma Jux alongside his wife, Priscilla Ojo, marking their first major public appearance as newlyweds at the Headies.
The 17th edition of the Headies featured awards across 31 categories, including Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year, and Recording of the Year.
