The National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, has died at the age of 100.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, confirmed the death in a statement issued personally on Tuesday.
Governor Aiyedatiwa described the late Pa Reuben Fasoranti as a respected elder statesman whose century-long life was devoted to the development of Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.
The governor said his wisdom, guidance and commitment to justice and good governance would be greatly missed.
Aiyedatiwa also commiserated with the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and residents of Ondo State over the loss.
A Legacy of Leadership
Pa Fasoranti, who turned 100 in May 2026, was a prominent figure in Yoruba socio-political affairs and had served as the national leader of Afenifere.
Earlier this year, President Bola Tinubu had celebrated him on his centenary, describing him as an elder statesman, pro-democracy activist and prominent political figure whose life represented integrity, dedicated service and leadership.
The late Afenifere leader was also recognised for his role in opposing military dictatorship and advocating for democratic governance and greater development for the Yoruba people and Nigeria.
Details surrounding his death are expected to emerge.
