The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the death of Arise Television news anchor and reporter, Ms. Somtochukwu Maduagwu.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja. She explained that Maduagwu was killed during an armed robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday.
According to Adeh, the Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Mr. Ajao Adewale, described the incident as “a cruel and senseless act that has no place in a sane society.”
“To this end, the Commissioner has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. He has also directed the deployment of intelligence and operational assets to identify, track, and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime,” Adeh stated.
She assured the public that justice would be served, reiterating the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and preventing similar crimes.
Adeh also appealed for public cooperation, urging residents to provide timely and credible information that could aid ongoing investigations. She advised members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police to help deter criminal attacks.
The Commissioner of Police, meanwhile, extended his condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the late journalist.
