Chelsea have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign French centre-back Maxence Lacroix on a long-term contract.

The two London clubs had been in positive talks over the transfer, with Palace reportedly valuing the 26-year-old defender at around £60 million. An agreement has now been reached, while personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
Lacroix is expected to undergo his Chelsea medical within the next 24 hours before completing the move. His new contract is reportedly set to run until 2032.
The deal represents another major addition to Chelsea’s defence as the club continues to strengthen its squad.
Lacroix enjoyed an impressive campaign with Crystal Palace last season, making 55 appearances in all competitions and playing a key role as the Eagles lifted the UEFA Conference League — the club’s first major European trophy.
He was also part of the Palace side that defeated Liverpool in the Community Shield.

His performances earned him a place in France’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he made three appearances as Les Bleus finished fourth.
Palace originally signed Lacroix from Wolfsburg in August 2024 for an initial £15.5 million, with another £2.6 million potentially due in add-ons. Since arriving in England, he has developed into one of the Premier League’s most reliable central defenders.
Why Chelsea Want Lacroix
Lacroix brings a combination of physical strength, speed and defensive consistency.
During the 2025/26 Premier League season, he was the only player to register at least 50 tackles, 200 duels won and 250 clearances, finishing with 60 tackles, 204 duels won and 252 clearances.
Standing at 6ft 4in, the Frenchman also possesses impressive recovery speed, having recorded a top speed of 35.81 km/h since moving to the Premier League.
His versatility could also prove important for Chelsea. Lacroix is comfortable operating in either a back three or a traditional back four, giving the Blues greater tactical flexibility.
With his medical now expected, Chelsea are closing in on completing another major defensive signing ahead of the new season.
