Votes are being counted in Turkey’s presidential run-off election

Early results are being announced, suggesting a very tight race.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is favourite to win, wants to extend his two decades in power for another five years

Turkey has become increasingly authoritarian under his leadership, with the country’s 64 million voters deeply polarised

Erdogan’s secular rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, must win over voters who backed the third-placed, ultranationalist candidate Sinan Ogan in the last round.

No candidate managed to secure 50% of votes in the first round, with Erdogan on 49.52% and Kilicdaroglu on 45%

Key issues for voters include soaring inflation and the cost of living, as well as the aftermath of devastating earthquakes which killed more than 50,000 people
