Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has married his long-time partner, Georgina Rodriguez, in a private ceremony in the Portuguese resort town of Cascais, marking the latest chapter in the couple’s decade-long relationship.
The 41-year-old Ronaldo and 32-year-old Georgina Rodriguez tied the knot on Tuesday, with representatives of the football star confirming that the ceremony was “private and intimate.”
The couple’s five children were among those who attended the wedding.
Ronaldo later shared a photograph of the couple’s hands showing their wedding bands on Instagram, accompanied by the caption: “C (heart) G.”
The wedding came exactly one year after Rodriguez announced their engagement on Instagram.
From Madrid meeting to marriage
Ronaldo and Rodriguez first met in 2016 when Rodriguez was working at a Gucci store in Madrid.
Rodriguez has previously described their first encounter as “love at first sight.”
In a 2025 interview with Vogue Arabia, she said she immediately felt “a sense of peace and an inexplicable energy” when she was with Ronaldo, adding that it felt “as if we had known each other forever.”
Their relationship has since developed into one of the world’s most recognisable celebrity partnerships, extending beyond football into fashion, entertainment and business.
Together, the couple have more than 750 million followers across social media platforms.
Ronaldo’s football legacy
Ronaldo currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr and remains one of the most decorated footballers of his generation.
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus forward has won the Ballon d’Or five times.
He also represented Portugal at the World Cup this summer, where the national team exited in the last 16.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, has built her own public profile through fashion, social media and her Netflix reality series, I Am Georgina, which documents her family life alongside football, travel and fashion.
Cascais chosen amid wedding speculation
The wedding location had been the subject of intense speculation in Portuguese media in the days leading up to the ceremony.
Reports had suggested that the couple could marry in Sintra, outside Lisbon, or in Funchal on the Atlantic island of Madeira, Ronaldo’s birthplace.
Speculation that the ceremony would take place in Funchal last weekend attracted hundreds of people to the city’s cathedral hoping to catch a glimpse of the couple.
The cathedral had previously confirmed that no wedding ceremony for Ronaldo was scheduled there, although it said hosting such an event would have been “an honour.”
The couple ultimately chose Cascais, an upscale seaside resort about 30 kilometres west of Lisbon, where they own a villa.
Over the years, Ronaldo and Rodriguez have built a business portfolio spanning fashion and hospitality, while maintaining a massive global presence through social media.
Their wedding now adds a personal milestone to a relationship that has evolved from a chance meeting in a Madrid fashion store into one of the most closely followed celebrity partnerships in the world.
