A 37-year-old environmental inspector, Tosin Omodayo, appeared before the Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State on Friday, charged with impersonating a medical doctor.
The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, is facing a one-count charge but pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor Mr. Zedekiah Orogbemi informed the court that the alleged offense occurred on February 11 at 9:00 a.m. at the 19 Battalion Army Barracks in Okitipupa. Orogbemi stated that Omodayo falsely claimed to be a medical doctor at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital in Okitipupa, which he asserted was untrue.
The charge was brought under Section 108(2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006, which outlines the penalty for such an offense.
Chief Magistrate Mr. Olanrewaju Adelegan granted Omodayo bail in the amount of N100,000, with a surety in a similar sum. The surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of two years’ tax payment to the state government.
The case was adjourned until April 30 for further hearings.
