YOLA, ADAMAWA STATE — August 20, 2025
In a deeply emotional moment that brought relief to many, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has successfully reunited 14 abducted children with their families, following a coordinated rescue operation by security agencies and community volunteers.
The reunion, which took place on Monday at the Government House in Yola, was marked by tears of joy, warm embraces, and heartfelt prayers from parents who had feared the worst for their missing children. The children, aged between 4 and 15, had been taken from various parts of the state over the last several months, in incidents linked to rising insecurity in some rural areas.
Governor Fintiri, speaking during the handover, said:
“These children are not just statistics—they are sons and daughters, brothers and sisters. We are committed to making Adamawa a safer place for every child to grow, dream, and thrive.”
The rescue operation was described as a team effort, involving the Nigerian Police, local vigilante groups, and information shared by community members. The governor praised the courage and vigilance of those who assisted without seeking recognition.
The children are now receiving medical and psychological support to help them heal and reintegrate safely into their communities. Authorities have assured the public that security will be strengthened to prevent future abductions, and that justice will be pursued against those responsible.
This reunion highlights not only the tragedy of child abductions but also the power of collective action and responsive leadership. In a time when many families live in fear, this successful rescue sends a strong message: every child matters, and no family should ever be left to suffer in silence.
For the reunited families, today marks the beginning of a new chapter—one filled with hope, healing, and the comfort of being together again.
