Guardiola Rejects Italy Job

Pep Guardiola has turned down the opportunity to become the next head coach of the Italian national team.

The former Manchester City manager, who left the club this summer after an extraordinary 10-year spell, has decided to stick with his original plan of taking a break from football.

According to reports, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) made a serious effort to convince Guardiola to take charge of the Azzurri. Federation president Giovanni Malagò recently confirmed that discussions had taken place and even suggested the organization was prepared to make financial exceptions to meet Guardiola’s salary demands.

The offer reportedly went beyond money. Italy was willing to give Guardiola significant control over the national team project, allowing him to shape the role on his own terms as they searched for the right leader to rebuild the squad.

Italy’s first choice was former international Carlo Ancelotti, but the veteran coach chose to remain with Brazil after committing to the national team.

After carefully considering Italy’s proposal, Guardiola informed the federation that he would not be accepting the position. Instead, he plans to spend time with his family, travel, and recharge after a decade of nonstop football at Manchester City.

Guardiola’s decision leaves Italy searching for a new manager at a crucial time. The four-time world champions are aiming to recover from a difficult period that has seen them fail to qualify for the last three FIFA World Cups.

With Guardiola and Ancelotti both unavailable, former Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo has emerged as the leading candidate for the job. Pirlo, who currently manages United FC in Dubai, could now be handed the responsibility of guiding Italy through a challenging UEFA Nations League group featuring France, Belgium, and Turkey before leading their campaign to qualify for UEFA Euro 2028.

Italy is expected to make a decision on its next head coach in the coming weeks as preparations continue for the upcoming international fixtures.
