Gunmen storm Kano community, kill APC chairman, resident

Gunmen have killed the All Progressives Congress chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Garba Buba, and another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma, in a fresh attack on the community.

The victims were killed on Sunday night when suspected gunmen invaded the Rantan community and opened fire on residents, forcing many residents to flee their homes for safety.

A resident, Hamza Isah Rantan, who confirmed the attack in a Facebook post, said the gunmen stormed the community at night and shot at residents.

He said Alhaji Buba was shot inside his residence and later died in hospital, while Mr Zunduma was killed instantly after being shot during the attack.

Hamza wrote, “On Sunday night, kidnappers attacked our town, Rantan, where they shot Alhaji Garab Buha, the APC ward chairman in Rantan, who later died in a hospital. They also killed another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma.

“We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and heals the injured.”

APC confirms killing

The Kano State APC spokesperson, Auwalu Soja, also confirmed the death of the ward chairman.

Mr Soja said the party would issue an official statement on the incident.

However, as of the time of the report, the Kano State Police Command had not issued a statement on the attack or disclosed whether any suspects had been arrested.

Another attack in Kano

The incident occurred less than 24 hours after suspected bandits attacked Chiromawa community in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of the state and abducted the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa.

The traditional leader was later rescued unhurt after security operatives, working with members of the community, pursued the attackers and forced them to abandon their victim.

According to the police, three residents — Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20 — sustained gunshot injuries during the Garun Mallam attack and were taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Security forces launch manhunt

The police said tactical and patrol teams, reinforced by personnel from neighbouring divisions, were mobilised after receiving a distress call at about 11:30pm on Saturday.

Confidence-building patrols were subsequently deployed around Garun Mallam, while a manhunt was launched for the fleeing attackers.

The successive attacks have heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Kano State, with residents calling on security agencies to intensify surveillance and prevent further attacks.

For residents of communities such as Rantan and Garun Mallam, the latest incidents have again raised concerns about the safety of lives and property, particularly as attacks continue to occur in quick succession.
