Nollywood actor, comedian and skit maker Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has opened up about the stray-bullet injury that kept him away from work for months, leaving him uncertain about his future in entertainment.

Shaggi recounted the ordeal in a YouTube video released on Wednesday, confirming details of the incident that was first reported in March 2026.

According to Shaggi, the incident occurred on March 9, 2026, while he was returning from a brand activation assignment around the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.

He said the crew had finished the assignment and was caught in traffic when he suddenly heard a loud bang.

Shaggi said he initially did not understand what had happened until he touched his hip and discovered that he was bleeding.

Earlier reports had said he sustained the injury while filming a comedy skit under the Sango-Ota bridge. At the time, the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear, while the Ogun State Police Command said it could not confirm that the incident occurred within its jurisdiction.

‘I didn’t want to die’

Recounting the terrifying moment, Shaggi said he was overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty after realising he had been shot.

He said he later lost consciousness and could not remember how he got to the hospital, but recalled praying throughout the journey.

“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.

The comedian said he was sweating, holding his injured leg and desperately hoping to hear medical personnel reassure him that he would survive.

He said his main concern at the time was simply staying alive.

Injury threatened his career

Beyond the physical pain, Shaggi said the injury left him worried about his ability to continue his career.

As a performer whose work involves dancing, acting, singing and other physical activities, he began wondering whether he would ever be able to perform again.

He said he had maintained a demanding work schedule since 2018, moving continuously between writing, filming, music and travelling for engagements.

“I was not sure if I would still be able to do all these things they were doing again,” he said, recalling how emotional it was to watch colleagues continue working while he remained hospitalised.

Surgery in Nigeria, further treatment in Dubai

Shaggi said he underwent surgery in Nigeria but was later advised to seek additional treatment and physiotherapy.

After about four months, he travelled to Dubai for further treatment and underwent another operation.

He said the improvement following the procedure gave him renewed hope, explaining that he was able to stand with support the day after the surgery and walk with crutches shortly afterwards.

He recalled an earlier period when he could not move without two crutches or even place the injured leg on the ground.

Recovery still ongoing

The entertainer said his condition has improved significantly, although his recovery is not yet complete.

He said he can now stand without crutches and walk, but still relies on them for support.

Shaggi expressed gratitude that the bullet did not strike a more vital part of his body.

“It was a stray bullet and it came this way to my hip. What if it had come this way and hit my head or hit any vital organ?” he said.

‘I’m grateful to be alive’

Reflecting on the experience, Shaggi described his survival as a second chance and said he was grateful to be alive.

He also said the period away from work gave him time to write and develop new content, including a YouTube series.

Rather than asking fans to feel sorry for him, the comedian urged them to look forward to his return, promising new projects.

“I’m grateful to be alive. It’s second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen because right now I’m coming with exciting projects,” he said.

The entertainer’s account provides fresh details about the incident that forced him away from the public eye for several months and interrupted his career at a time when he was maintaining an intense work schedule.
