The Okitipupa Local Government Council in Ondo State has announced an indefinite suspension of all scavenging and scrap metal operations within its jurisdiction, citing escalating security concerns.
Council Chairman, Mr. Andrew Ogunsakin, disclosed this decision on Wednesday while briefing journalists in Okitipupa. He said the move aims to curb the security threats posed by unregulated scavenging, which he described as increasingly linked to itinerant individuals and criminal activity.

“In light of growing security concerns, we have suspended the operations of scavengers and scrap metal dealers indefinitely within Okitipupa Local Government and surrounding areas,” Ogunsakin stated.
He further directed security agencies and community leaders to commence the profiling of all individuals involved in these activities, adding that such measures are necessary to restore order and accountability.
“The safety of our communities and protection of public infrastructure remain our top priorities,” the chairman added.
Security personnel have been instructed to enforce the suspension strictly, with violators facing legal consequences.
Ogunsakin appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperative, and law-abiding as the council implements measures to ensure the safety of lives and property across the area.
